Privacy policy
The most important thing first: Kleinmacher shrinks your videos entirely on your phone. There is no registration, no account and no cloud. A video only leaves your device when you share it yourself. This policy describes which data is processed and which rights you have.

The Kleinmacher app
Processing on your device only
The videos you select are read and shrunk on your phone and, if you wish, saved to your gallery. Temporary working copies are created in the app's storage; the app deletes them after saving, discarding or at the latest on the next start. Kleinmacher does not upload any video file or any information derived from it. When you share a video yourself, the app hands it to the app you choose for that (for example email or a messenger); that app's privacy rules then apply. The legal basis is the performance of the contract of use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Metadata of your videos
Videos contain technical details such as resolution, duration, recording time and possibly location data. Kleinmacher shows them to you for orientation. The recording time is copied into the shrunk video so that it is sorted correctly in your gallery. Location data is removed when shrinking so that it is not passed on when you share the video.
Permissions
From Android 11 on, Kleinmacher needs no permission: you select your videos through the system's own picker, and the app only gets to see those videos. It saves shrunk videos in the “Kleinmacher” album. On Android 10 and older, the app asks for access to photos and videos before saving, because the system requires it there. On iPhone you also select your videos through the system's own picker. Before the first save, the app asks for access to your photos: with full access it creates the “Kleinmacher” album; with access to selected photos only, it saves the videos without an album. The app does not request any other permissions such as location, contacts, camera or microphone.
Settings
The app stores your language and a few technical settings locally on the device. They are not transmitted.
Error log
If a technical error occurs, the app stores an error description locally, with the time, app version, operating system and its version, and technical details of the video concerned (for example duration, size and resolution). These entries are only transmitted if you choose “Send error log” in the settings yourself. Your email app then opens with the content, which you can review and edit before sending. The log contains no videos and no location data.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
Kleinmacher is free and funded by advertising. For this the app uses Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). When an ad is loaded, Google receives technical data such as IP address, device type, operating system, app version and, if you consented, your device's advertising ID.
Before the first ad the app asks for your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, Sec. 25(1) TDDDG). For this it uses Google's consent dialog (User Messaging Platform); your decision is stored on the device. Without consent only non-personalised ads are shown, or none at all. You can change or withdraw your decision at any time in the app's settings under “Privacy settings”.
On iPhone, the app additionally asks before the first ad, using Apple's dialog (App Tracking Transparency), whether your device's advertising ID may be used for advertising. If you decline there, Google does not receive the advertising ID. You can change this decision at any time in the iPhone settings under “Privacy & Security” → “Tracking”.
Information on data processing by Google: policies.google.com/privacy. The app uses no other analytics or tracking services.
Ad-free purchase (RevenueCat)
You can switch off advertising with a one-time purchase. The purchase is processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store; we receive no payment data.
So that the app knows whether you have bought “Ad-free”, it queries the service RevenueCat when it starts (RevenueCat, Inc., 1032 E Brandon Blvd #3003, Brandon, FL 33511, USA). RevenueCat works on our behalf and processes a random, anonymous identifier of your app installation and – if you have made a purchase – the purchase information from the store (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). For technical reasons your IP address is also transmitted with the query.
So that we can trace problems with a purchase, the app also sends technical details to RevenueCat: operating system and its version, device model and app version (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Your name or email address is not transmitted. The transfer to the USA is safeguarded by the EU Commission's standard contractual clauses.
The data remains stored at RevenueCat until you request its deletion. How to do that is explained at kleinmacher.de/datenloeschung.html.
App stores
When you obtain the app via Google Play or the Apple App Store, the respective providers process data under their own responsibility, for example for download, updates and ratings. Their privacy policies apply.
The website kleinmacher.de
Server logs
The website is hosted by STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. When you visit it, STRATO automatically stores technical access data (IP address, time, page requested, browser). This data serves security and operation; in the log files we can view, the IP address is anonymised. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
The button to Google Play leads via a redirect on our own site. This lets us see in the server log how often it was tapped – without cookies and without an analytics service.
No cookies, no tracking
The website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking services. It serves fonts and images itself; no content is loaded from third-party servers.
Contact and support
If you write to us by email, we process your email address and the content of your message in order to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). If you write to us from within the app, the app version and operating system are already in the text; you can delete them before sending. The data is deleted as soon as the request has been dealt with and no statutory retention obligations apply.
Your rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR). You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future. To do so, contact the address given above. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection of Lower Saxony (Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen).
Kleinmacher stores no videos and no accounts on servers. Whatever the app stores on your phone you can delete yourself at any time by clearing the app data or uninstalling the app. For the data held by RevenueCat, see kleinmacher.de/datenloeschung.html.
Changes
We update this policy when the app, the website or the legal situation changes. You will find the current version at kleinmacher.de/en/datenschutz.html and in the app under Settings.
